Charity Race Night

On Sunday the 21st December 2008 The Estuary Club of Leigh on Sea was the venue for a charity race night in association with William Hill Bookmakers and CFM - charityfootballmatch.co.uk. The event was raising money for the Little Haven's Children Hospice. After a successful evening of horse racing, along with the tremendous support from the guys and gals at William Hill who organised a football competition and raised money using charity boxes placed at a number of William Hill shops in the south east of Essex.

The event itself saw CFM honourable member Tony Sullivan really come into his element organising not only the Race Night with of course the all the night entertainment - races and ladies raffle, but was pivotal in working with William Hill and especially Ian Smith with regards to the football competition and charity boxes. The shops that supported the football competition raised an amazing £336.50 and those who had the Little Havens charity boxes raised a fantastic £119.62.

As for the Race Night itself, well, what a night..... the finest members of both the Estuary Club and William Hill staff were in attendance to try their luck with eight exciting races and ending with an auction race. The evening showed a profit of £394.50, and with Tony dipping into super wife Sylvie's purse for an extra 38p the overall money raised by the event and the district was £851.00.

With so much effort put into this event there are many people to thank for their support. To mention some key individuals CFM and Tony would like to thank Olga O'Leary (Hockley Manager), Alison Smith (Laindon Manager) and husband Kevin for their stirling work taking the bets on the night. The Team also wants to thank Irene Taylor (West Street Manager) and Lori Belkacemi (Dept Laindon) for their help with the Tricast race. Also thanks go to Gerry, Wayne and the best looking chauffeur on the firm Carmel.

Finally and most crucially, the amount raised would not have been possible without the support of Ian Smith - Thank you sir.
